PROBLEM RECOGNITION:

Laptop’s Black Screen.

PROBLEM TROUBLESHOOTING:

  FLASH BIOS.

Un-plug the laptop from the wall socket and remove the battery.
Press the start button (and keep it pressed) for 30 seconds.
Connect the battery and switch on.
    Laptop starts, good
Laptop does not start, Move on.

  BOARD LEVEL CHECK

Connect a working External LCD screen
Press Fn key + the appropriate function key with  label on it.

   LCD works, Good.

Test the inverter and light tube you will have to carefully open the screen casing to access it.)
LCD doesn’t work,
Test video card on other computer.(They come in different models : ) These are just a few of them.
Video Card Works, Good, Move on
Video Card Fails,
Insert a working Video Card on your laptop
(Because I have not dealt with every kind of model available, please always Google for how a video card can be replaced on your model if you are not sure leave alone know how your video card looks like. There is a lot of help out there.)
Works, Problem Solved.

Works but with dim icons (no backlight).
External LCD should work. Move on
Listen for the Fan or Hard drive sound
Sound not registered,
Sound registered.  Good.
Flash a strong flash light on the screen.
Dim icons/images seen, Yes,
Test the Power inverter (with a multi-Tester if you have one. If you don’t have it, test the inverter on another laptop) and backlight light tube (carry out this test only if the inverter passed the test. But almost always, you may have to buy another screen if the inverter passes the test. You may say why! Well, because a problem with the Back light tube is to my knowledge un repairable. You can only replace it if there is such a computer shop that can avail you with a replacement in your area).
Power inverter passes test,
Check the Back light tube (light tubes are not easy to repair if repairable anyway. You may have to buy another or the whole screen which is unfortunate)
Power inverter fails test,
Replace it or test the capacitors and transistors. Replace defunct or fried ones with one of the same capacities. It’s a difficult level. You may just want to buy a new screen but try.

LCD Back light Power inverters Range:

Back Light Tube Connected to the Back Light Power Inverter:

NB:  You will have to open your laptop’s screen in order to access the inverter (which is easy to locate just at the bottom of the screen) and the Back Light tube (which hidden rather inside the screen. Take great care not to crack your screen.)
Look out for videos from the web on how to do this or just Google it.
